KLM
History
KLM was founded in 1919 and is the oldest airline in the world still operating under its
original name. The airline’s first destination in Denmark was Copenhagen, which has been served
since 20 April 1925. After having a code-share with Maersk Air from Billund between 1996-2006, KLM
started operating with its own aircrafts in March 2006.
In 2004 AIR FRANCE and KLM merged, creating the world biggest airline group in terms of revenue and the biggest European in terms of market shares.
Destinations
KLM offers 10 daily flights from Denmark (Copenhagen – 6/ Billund- 4) to Amsterdam.
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is build as one terminal making transfer in Amsterdam fast and easy. The
airport is often elected one of the best airports in the world in various international surveys.
Minimum connecting time is 40 minutes flights within Europe, 50 minutes for long haul flights.
Together with AIR FRANCE, KLM offers an extensive global network and fly to 252 destinations in 106 countries. With its summer schedule 2008, KLM has launched a series of new destinations: Dallas-Fort Worth, Portland (Oregon), Panama City, Nantes and Linköping, increased the number of flights to, for example, Shanghai, Toronto and Detroit and increased its capacity through larger aircrafts to Sao Paolo, Osaka, Dubai and New York JFK, for example.
Environment
AIR FRANCE KLM has taken a series of important measures for the environment and has
a clear and ambitious climate policy: The Group’s major goal in the coming years will be to address
the increase in demand for mobility while keeping the rate of increase in emissions below that of
air traffic.
For several years, AIR FRANCE KLM has been working for sustainable development as a part of its
overall strategy. Our ambition is to set the CSR standard within the airline industry and to keep
our leading position, which is confirmed by the Group’s ranking in the Dow Jones Sustainability
Indexes. For the third consecutive year, AIR FRANCE KLM is recognized as the
Nr 1 sustainable airline.
One of the most efficient ways of reducing the CO2 emissions is to have a young fleet. Since 2002 KLM has been continuously investing in new planes. For example, the fleet of Boeing 747 has been gradually replaced by the modern and fuel efficient Boeing 777.
KLM has had a CO2 calculator on its website site since 2002 and today passengers are given the possibility to compensate their journey. KLM is co-operating with WWF.

Air France, Aeromexico, Delta and Korean founded the SkyTeam alliance in 2000.
Today, SkyTeam has 11 members: Air France, Aeroflot, Aeromexico, Alitalia, China Southern Airlines,
Continental, CSA Czech Airlines, Delta, KLM, Korean and Northwest. SkyTeam is the second biggest
